2026 Japan Trip - Arriving Japan!

This year, only Cecilia and I will be heading off to Japan. As a great start, I left my iPhone in our car at the airport. I did not realize this until we passed the security checkpoint. I realized how heavily we were depending on the phone these days, I could not even tell the time. I bought a watch at the duty free shop and me and Cecilia had some snacks at the cafe, thinking how we were going to survive without a phone. Well, perhaps I can rent the phone once I get to the airport, oh we should go to the bathroom before heading off to the gate. While we were in the bathroom, suddenly, I realized the airport was paging me!!! AHHHH, we went back to the security checkpoint and discovered Brian was paging me 20,000 times (well, sort of). Poor Brian, he went back to my car after he sent us off at the airport and he discovered my phone, so he came back to the security checkpoint and kept paging me since then. That was over 1 hour, patiently waiting for me to notice the paging. We were able to unite and I got my phone back safely, apologizing Brian and rushed back to clear the security and we made it to the gate on time.

This year, for the first time, we are flying with Zipair. This is a subsidiary of Japan airline as a low-cost airline and it was started the route between SFO and Tokyo in 2023. There is no in-flight movie/TV show (no monitor at the passenger seat) and you have to purchase check-in luggage free, meal & beverage, amenity (blanket etc). I purchased premium package which includes; Prior seat selection, Carry-on baggage + 8 kg, Checked Baggage (30 kg), In-flight Meal and Amenity Set. The amenity set has blanket, head pillow, eye mask, ear plugs, slippers) and you can take all of them with you after the flight.

But I feel like an amenity set was not necessary, the blanket was fluffy and nice but you ended up carrying this bulky amenity bag after the flight.

The meal was quite good but it came with a small bottle of water and after several hours, we got thirsty. To get water or other drinks, you have to purchase on-line. So you have to connect to Wi-Fi (it was a free service) and log into your account and purchase beverages. I had a hard time checking out my drinks (even trying to check out as guests) and it took almost 10 minutes trying to figure out how the system works. I think I will purchase drinks ahead of time for our returning flight.

My older sister and my niece were kindly picking us up from Narita Airport, carrying heave suitcases and escorted us to my mom's house in Kichijoji!!! Thank you Harumi-san and Hanna-chan!!!
